Open Call – HBURG Utility Box Series: Phase Four
HBURG Utility Box Series: Phase Four
Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art is pleased to announce a Call for Artists for innovative and creative utility box designs along several of Hattiesburg’s streets and throughways. Artists with experience in public art or painting and budding artists with direct assistance from a professional are invited to submit up to three original artworks for consideration.
The utility box series is designed to enhance public spaces along Hattiesburg’s corridors, encourage continued development of the arts, and cultivate a sense of community. This phase of the public art project will include up to 20 boxes with a stipend provided for each completed piece.
The paintings should be designed to cover all four sides of selected utility boxes. Average dimensions for utility boxes are 56”h x 44’w x 75”d.
Entries must be original designs suitable for viewing by all ages, and artists must demonstrate their ability to hand paint designs through the images submitted to this call. Creative license in design and theme is encouraged, but artists are encouraged to use little to no words in Phase Four of the series, focusing on visual designs.
All applications must be electronically submitted by noon on Friday, October 3, 2025. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Artist selection is expected to be made by October 10 and painting must be complete no later than November 30, 2025. Artists must monitor the weather as most paint will not adhere to metal cooler than 50°F.
