Open Call – Lest We Forget
Lest We Forget Mural
Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art (HAPA) and the Forrest County Board of Supervisors are pleased to announce a Call for Artists to design and execute an exterior mural in the East Jerusalem / Newman community of Hattiesburg, MS. This call is open to those with professional experience in public art or painting.
The mural will be approximately 9 feet high by 20 feet wide on a cinderblock wall within the Eastside Park community greenspace and ballfield. The wall is currently unpainted and will need to be primed by the selected artist prior to the start of the project.
To honor the rich heritage of the East Jerusalem / Newman area, concept proposals should thoughtfully incorporate elements that reflect its recognizable architecture and longstanding industries in this area. Key themes include education, livestock, mercantile trade, small businesses, churches, seafood, produce, and local grocers — all of which played vital roles in sustaining and shaping the neighborhood over many decades.
All applications must be electronically submitted by 5:00 pm on Monday, June 2, 2025. No late or incomplete applications will be considered. Artist selection will be made by June 16 and work on the mural must be fully complete by July 31, 2025.
