Open Call – The Hattiesburg Way

The Hattiesburg Way Mural

HAPA and the City of Hattiesburg are pleased to announce a Call for Artists to design and execute an interior mural at the Hattiesburg Public Safety Complex in Hattiesburg, MS. This call is open to those with professional experience in public art or painting.

The painted mural will be approximately 20 feet wide x 15 feet tall along an interior sheetrock wall inside Hattiesburg’s Public Safety Complex. Completed in 2022, the world-class complex encompasses a state-of-the-art police station and municipal courtroom. This three-story facility houses offices and amenities for officers across all divisions, police administration, telecommunications, records, a courtroom, court records, and a community room that residents and organizations can use. The 90,000 square foot complex boasts forward-thinking advancements with modern technology that also pays honor to days of the past through its restoration of the original Methodist hospital that encompasses the right side of the complex.

All applications must be electronically submitted by 3:00 pm on Friday, March 21, 2025. No late or incomplete applications will be considered. Artist selection will be made by March 26 and work on the mural must be fully complete by April 25, 2025. This project is partially funded by a National Endowment of the Arts grant, and no extensions can be given to the stated deadline. Artists should only apply if able to work within the provided time frame.
