Birthplace of Rock & Roll

In cooperation with T-Bones Records & Cafe and Prince Sign Company, HAPA partnered to present “Hattiesburg, the Birthplace of Rock & Roll.” The work is a nod to Rock & Roll’s roots beginning in Hattiesburg, where the first riffs of the genre were recorded in July 1936. This historical recording by The Mississippi Jook Band is commemorated by an official Mississippi Blues Trail Marker.

“Hub City, Smile” is Hattiesburg’s first public art piece designed to be an interactive experience, with a standalone larger-than-life smile providing a great photo opportunity for those visiting the work. Located on Mobile Street in Downtown Hattiesburg, the mural features an eye-catching, circular design with inspiring quote by Mother Teresa. “Hub City, Smile” was created in cooperation with Laughs 4 Life.

This larger-than-life design is both vibrant and patriotic and includes an insignia officially honoring past and present female public office holders in the Greater Hattiesburg area.

“#WhatLiftsYou” features the work of internationally-renowned street mural artist Kelsey Montague. Located in Downtown Hattiesburg, the newest piece is a part of the worldwide #WhatLiftsYou collection. Hattiesburg’s tallest mural, adorning the West Pine Street parking garage, features dragonflies soaring up the structure. #WhatLiftsYou was made possible in large part by the City of Hattiesburg and the philanthropy of locals Catherine and Chad Edmonson. Visitors are encouraged to become a part of the art and share their experience on social media.
